The Detroit Red Wings fan base was surprised by the reinvention of their old goalie for the 2025-26 NHL season.
Talbot assumed that when the Red Wings traded for John Gibson, he wouldn't be a backup. Gibson, 32, is younger than Talbot, 38, and had a quality season in Anaheim.
Talbot did what he always does: he worked in the offseason to make himself a better goalie the following season.
Perhaps the competition with Gibson motivated Talbot, as he is off to a strong start.
