Local bird rescues in Sonoma are still struggling to cope with the large number of unwanted roosters and birds, despite warnings several weeks ago that they were at capacity.
“We’re completely at capacity,” said Tania Soderman, founder of Sonoma Chicks Rescue and Sanctuary. “The phone started ringing off the hook. I can’t even pick it up anymore.”
The crisis has only worsened, with funding not keeping pace with the influx of birds. Sonoma Chicks Rescue and Sanctuary, which has been operating since 2015, currently houses over 100 birds, including chickens, ducks, injured pigeons, and turkeys, cared for by Soderman and one intern.
The sanctuary is in urgent need of support to address the growing crisis. Author's summary: Sonoma bird rescues are overwhelmed.
