India: PEC Expresses Concern over Attacks on Media Persons
The Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), a global media safety and rights body, has expressed serious concern over a mob attack on media persons in Assam, India.
The attack occurred on October 15, while the media persons were covering a protest demonstration in the Baksa locality. The protesters were demanding justice for Assam's cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who died mysteriously in Singapore on September 19.
- The protesters targeted reporters and video journalists as five accused in the case were being shifted to Baksa jail from Guwahati.
