KEY WEST’S HOMECOMING TRADITIONS TURN 75
Seventy-five years have passed since the first Homecoming game, with the country having elected a dozen presidents, fought and debated wars, and seen music evolve from sock hops to hip hop.
The world of 1950 is vastly different from that of today’s high school students in 2025, with changes in technology, culture, and society, including the transition from black and white TV and segregated schools.
Despite these changes, Key West High School continues to treasure its hometown traditions, including the annual Homecoming game and the crowning of the Homecoming queen, voted by fellow students.
This week, the school’s football team will take the field for the 75th annual Homecoming game, with the 75th Homecoming queen being crowned during halftime.
