Alexander Gasper, a student at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, has qualified for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in France.
Gasper was diagnosed with a rare heart disorder, but a life-saving procedure allowed him to pursue sports and sparked his interest in becoming a doctor.
He is now balancing medical school with training for the championship, which consists of 70.3 miles of swimming, biking, and running.“It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,”
says Gasper, noting that his upcoming residency will make it difficult to pursue races at this level in the future.
