Mud Slide Leaves Vancouver Island's Holberg Stranded and Without Power
A windstorm has cut off access to the small, remote community of Holberg on Vancouver Island's northern tip due to a mudslide.
A mudslide has closed Holberg Road, with reports of several other slides in the area. According to Dane Cameron, the Regional District of Mount Waddington's emergency program coordinator,
"The slide occurred on Northeast 60 Road at approximately the 14k mark,"
which is a Western Forest Products section of road.
- BC Hydro reports 47 customers are affected by the slide and are currently without power.
- Affected areas include the end of Dombie Hill Road, Victoria Road, and other nearby locations.
Western Forest Products is undertaking an assessment to understand the extent of the slide and will develop an action plan for debris removal.
