Climate Risks in Asean
According to Ravi Menon, Singapore's ambassador for climate action, Asean faces significant transboundary climate risks, including food security, water scarcity, and flooding, due to the worsening climate crisis.
The more I reflect on this and the more I speak to experts and all manner of people, it’s quite clear that we need to double down on adaptation efforts, both as a country, and also in collaboration with other countries around us for collective action.
Menon emphasized the need for collective action and collaboration among Asean countries to tackle these challenges.
Key climate risks in Asean include:
- Food security
- Water scarcity
- Flooding
Author's summary: Asean needs collective action on climate change.
