Impact of LNG Liquefaction Plant on Local Communities
Residents in Squamish are concerned about the potential effects of the Woodfibre LNG project on their community, drawing from the experiences of Kitimat locals after the opening of the LNG liquefaction plant.
Locals in Kitimat reported that while they expected some pollution, the intensity and persistence of noise from the operation were unexpected.
“Every so often, it'll sound like there’s an airplane going overhead for, like, the entire time that it’s flared, and then it goes down and you can’t hear it anymore,”
said Frankie Maddison, a Kitimat resident.
The noise from the plant has significantly altered the soundscape of the valley, causing concern among nearby communities like Squamish.
