Optical Vendor Ribbon Suffers Cybersecurity Incident
Telcos worldwide are experiencing cyberbreaches, and vendors are also being targeted.
Ribbon Communications, an optical system vendor, has been hacked by "unauthorized persons, reportedly associated with a nation-state actor," believed to be a reference to China.
The hackers have been sitting quietly in Ribbon's IT systems for almost a year.
The incident was disclosed in the company's 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the sub-heading "Cybersecurity Incident Disclosure" on page 57.
The telecom sector's focus on cybersecurity is not only on network operators but also on tech suppliers like Ribbon.
