With about 76% of the votes counted across Nassau County, early results suggest that Republicans will continue to control the County Legislature. The projected outcome is 11 Republicans to 8 Democrats, slightly adjusted from the previous 11-7 divide.
The Legislature currently operates with a vacant seat in District 15, which was left open when former legislator John Ferretti assumed his new role as Hempstead town supervisor. Before this vacancy, Republicans maintained a stronger 12-7 majority.
During Tuesday’s election, Democrats managed to gain one district — District 14 — narrowing the gap but not overturning Republican control.
“The Nassau County Legislature is comprised of 19 legislators representing the county’s 19 districts.”
Republicans are expected to hold their majority in the Nassau County Legislature, though Democrats slightly improved their standing by flipping one seat.
