Jacksonville Police Officer, K-9 Shooter Suspect Found and Arrested

Jacksonville Police announced that Bobby Dennis, 64, was located and taken into custody in a wooded area just outside the city limits Tuesday night after being on the run since Sunday. Authorities arrested Dennis in connection with the shooting of a police officer and a police K-9.

The arrest occurred around 8:30 p.m. after several law enforcement agencies helped the Jacksonville Police Department serve a search warrant at a property on County Road 3509, west of the city limits. Dennis surrendered peacefully and was handcuffed with restraints from the injured officer before being transported to Cherokee County Jail.

The arrest followed extensive collaboration among numerous agencies, including the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers, Texas Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement Division, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Kilgore Police Department, Bullard Police Department, Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, and Jacksonville Fire and EMS.

Jacksonville Police Chief Steven Markasky expressed gratitude, saying, “We commend the dedication, teamwork and support of all assisting agencies in resolving this case.”
