We’re back to Green on the Threat Tracker as winds have calmed, with only some passing lake rain showers this morning. Rain chances should end by the afternoon, leaving partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-40s. Winds remain light, with gusts around 20 MPH.
Winds will increase tomorrow ahead of a new front, causing gusts up to 30 MPH and rain in the afternoon and evening. Saturday will be cool and cloudy with lighter winds.
On Sunday, a low-pressure system will bring rain and some snow across the lake. Cold air wrapping around the system on Sunday night will provide our first chance for snow. Higher elevations will have the best chance to see snowflakes.
“Going into Sunday night, cold air will wrap around the system, giving US our first chance for snow! The higher elevations have the best chance to see flakes Sunday night.”
Monday will bring a surge of cold Canadian air into the US, likely causing at least some lake-effect snow as the wind shifts to the north. Tuesday offers a better chance for lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario as winds come out of the northwest. While significant accumulations are not expected, the forecast will be refined in the coming days.
“Monday and Tuesday will remain cold, with temperatures not exceeding the 30s.”
A clipper system will pass through on Wednesday, bringing rain and breezy winds.
This week’s weather shifts from calm and dry to cool with increasing winds, followed by the first chance for lake-effect snow and a cold Canadian air mass pushing into the region.
