Aimee Lou Wood is an English actress and writer known for her work on stage and screen. She earned a BAFTA Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance for her role in Sex Education. Over the years, she has appeared in various productions, including Film Club, Toxic Town, Daddy Issues, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Uncle Vanya, and Living.
Aimee Lou Wood shared how portraying her character Chelsea in White Lotus helped her manage body dysmorphia. By shifting focus from her own insecurities to what the character wanted, she found relief and acceptance.
“I shook myself out of it by thinking, 'It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does.' Acting has always been a safe place for me to work out my feelings. I think for that reason a role will hit me in the heart, in the gut.”
She further explained that while detaching from a character can take time, the experience and growth she gains from it are rewarding.
In addition to body dysmorphia, Aimee faced bulimia and social anxiety during her teenage years. She was diagnosed with ADHD earlier in 2025. Discussing her mental health in an interview with Radio Times in September 2025, Aimee emphasized the positive impact acting has had on her mindset.
“I don’t need everyone to understand me. The people that get me, get me.”
Aimee Lou Wood’s acting journey has empowered her to confront personal challenges like body dysmorphia and mental health struggles by embracing her roles and gaining deeper self-awareness.
