Canon unveiled the new EOS R6 Mark III, a model that blends key capabilities of the EOS C50 with a design optimized for still photography. Despite its photo-centric form, it retains impressive video functionality.
The EOS R6 Mark III succeeds the R6 Mark II, introduced over three years ago, with the original R6 debuting in July 2020. This new model continues Canon's push into hybrid performance cameras for both photographers and videographers.
The R6 Mark III incorporates a 32MP full-frame 3:2 sensor identical to that used in the Canon EOS C50. Its predecessor, the Mark II, featured a 24.2MP CMOS sensor, marking a clear jump in resolution and potential image detail.
The EOS R6 Mark III, along with the C50, does not feature Dual Gain Output (DGO) or a back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, unlike the C80, C400, and R3 models. Such sensors are often chosen for their improved autofocus performance and lower noise levels in challenging light.
Canon equipped the R6 Mark III with the DIGIC DV 7 processor — the same processing engine found in the C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III — ensuring consistent color science and efficient image processing across the lineup.
“The EOS R6 Mark III shares a lot of the same features and functionality as the Canon EOS C50, but in a form factor that is better suited for still photography.”
The Canon EOS R6 Mark III delivers a compelling mix of still and video capabilities, offering 33MP resolution, 7K internal RAW recording, and professional-level processing for creators seeking hybrid performance.
