The beloved show originally aired on Channel 10 starting in 2001 and ran for eight iconic seasons. Over those years, audiences witnessed memorable moments like proposals, humorous antics, twins pretending to be one person, and the appearance of Corey Worthington.
Big Brother also launched the careers of notable TV personalities including Chrissie Swan, Reggie Bird, and Sara-Marie Fedele.
“Big Brother is such a loved show,” Mel, 36, told The Weekly. “Around the world, and especially in Australia, the excitement for the return of it and to go back to the OG format has been so great to hear.”
As the 2025 host, Mel Tracina, known from The Cheap Seats, steps into a role once held by Gretel Killen and Sonia Kruger. A devoted fan of the original series, Mel brings wit and deep knowledge to the position.
“I love that the Australian public decide [who stays and leaves],” Mel admitted, expressing enthusiasm for audience participation.
Mel Tracina promises to connect viewers with the contestants in a way that will make Australians quickly fall in love with the show once more.
Mel Tracina eagerly returns Big Brother Australia to its original charm in 2025, hosting with passion and engaging viewers through live voting and nonstop coverage.
