Thailand greeted over 100 contestants on Sunday as the 74th Miss Universe pageant kicked off in Bangkok, featuring Cambodia’s representative amidst regional tensions.
The pageant, held under the theme “The Grand Universe: The Power of Love, The Power of Thailand,” is hosted by Thailand for the fourth time. The activities will continue until November 21 in Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya, showcasing Thailand’s culture and tourism.
Cambodia’s contestant, Thai Neary Socheata, also known as Fiyata, arrived despite ELEVENTO9 Company, Cambodia’s national license holder, announcing the country's withdrawal the day before due to unresolved issues between Cambodia and Thailand.
Fiyata chose to participate independently, which sparked debate on social media in both countries.
“I’ve arrived safely in Thailand. Thank you for the warm welcome, kindness, and support from everyone. Your love truly means so much to me.”
She was warmly welcomed by Cambodian supporters at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The pageant not only celebrates beauty but also promotes goodwill and cultural exchange despite political tensions.
