Army Corps Criticized for Inaction on Flood Prevention
Rep. Clay Higgins has expressed frustration with the Army Corps of Engineers for failing to spend $50 million allocated for dredging the Vermilion River, a project aimed at preventing flooding in Lafayette.
"The Corps of Engineers no longer serves our republic,"
Higgins secured the funding in 2021, but to date, none of the money has been spent on dredging, prompting his criticism of the Corps' work over the past two decades.
However, science suggests that dredging the Vermilion River may not be an effective solution to prevent flooding.
