U.S. Govt. Shutdown Delays Mill Creek Landing Dredging

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors is facing delays in the permit process for a routine maintenance dredge at Mill Creek public boat landing due to the potential presence of northeastern beach tiger beetles and a slowdown in permit reviews caused by the U.S. government shutdown.

According to David Kretz, Middlesex County Planning and Zoning Director, the permit process has been stalled, with Kretz stating:

"We thought this was going to be a pretty easy process (to have local contractors perform a maintenance dredge), but it does not appear that it is going to be so easy this time."

The dredging is necessary to address the silt and sand that returns to the boat landing every 10 to 12 months.

Author's summary: Delays hinder Mill Creek dredging.
