In Japan, women experience fewer menopausal symptoms and take less hormone replacement therapy than their Western counterparts.
The Japanese perspective might provide a counterbalance, said Melby.
According to UD anthropology professor Melissa Melby, the difference is cultural, linguistic, and medical, not genetic. Melby has spent almost three decades studying the topic and has published her first book, Reframing Aging: Insights from Biology and Culture of Midlife Japanese.
