Leaders Gather to Address Domestic Violence Prevention in Rochester

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Two events in Rochester this week aimed to combat the issue.

Angels of Mercy held an awareness walk on Thursday. The organization is collecting donations of bedding, towels, clothing, and other essentials at its Butterfly Boutique on North Winton Road to help women in need.

So many of them, when they're starting over, they don't have those items. Here at the boutique ... they receive everything free of charge.

According to Angels of Mercy founder Mary Jo Colligan, despite a decrease in crime overall in Rochester, domestic violence continues to be a major concern. Mayor Malik Evans stated that domestic violence

The community is coming together to raise awareness and provide support for those affected by domestic violence.
