Importance of Set-Pieces in FPL
We've seen a significant increase in the proportion of goals coming from set-pieces this season, prompting the question: are set-piece takers more important than ever?
A review of the last 10 full Premier League campaigns shows that set-piece goals have fluctuated between 200-250 per season, with a high of 255 in 2016/17 and a low of 197 in 2020/21.
As a percentage of total goals, set-pieces have accounted for around 20-21% in recent years, slightly lower than in the early 2010s. However, this season has seen a notable spike.
