Effects of Amazon Cloud Computing Outage Felt Locally
The Amazon web services outage had a local impact in the Capital Region, affecting various services such as Ring doorbell cameras, Amazon orders, Snapchat, and games like Roblox and Fortnite.
Other affected services included Disney+, Lyft, the McDonald's app, and Venmo. At Paesan's Pizza in Latham, American Express cards were processed, but Mastercard transactions displayed a "service unavailable" message.
So normally when we come in the morning, I open up, turn on the computers, and all of a sudden all the online orders come up and this morning we had zero. I'm like 'what's going on?' Things slowly started to come back online.
Owner Frank Scavio felt fortunate that the outage didn't occur on a Friday, their busiest day.
