RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton has charged a man with impaired driving after he fled from an attempted traffic stop.
On October 16, at approximately 9:57 p.m., a police officer clocked an eastbound Honda Civic on Hwy. 4 in Irish Cove travelling at 185 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone.
The vehicle did not stop when the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and the officer did not pursue to avoid further endangering the public.
Approximately 15 minutes later, the officer learned that a Honda Civic had flipped off the highway east of Big Pond, and the male driver had run to a nearby residence.
Officers located the man and conducted a roadside breath test, which resulted in a fail.
The 20-year-old man from Barra Head was arrested and transported to the North Sydney RCMP office, where he provided breath samples of one and a half times the legal limit.
