MLB Expansion: Salt Lake City and Portland in the Running
Sports analysts believe that when Major League Baseball decides to expand, one team will be added in the east and one in the west.
Salt Lake City is vying for the western team, with Portland, Oregon being its biggest competitor, according to analysts.
“For me, it’s Salt Lake City and Portland,” said John Canzano, a longtime sports journalist and radio show host in Oregon. “I think they’re underserved markets.”
Canzano believes Salt Lake City has the edge due to an ownership group, but notes that the process is a "marathon".
“If this is a marathon, and it feels like one to me, Salt Lake City is ahead,” Canzano said.
Salt Lake City's ownership group is seen as a major advantage in the bid for an MLB team.
