Ghost of Yotei, developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive, is the newest exclusive console release for PlayStation and a sequel to the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima.
The game improves upon some of the flaws of its predecessor, particularly in its open world, stealth, and combat mechanics. However, it falls short in its storytelling, focusing less on the narrative that made the original so special.
The story of Yotei leaves something to be desired — its simple revenge plot doesn’t force the player into many difficult decisions or situations.
The game follows the main character, Atsu, as she seeks revenge against the Yotei Six, a group of samurai responsible for killing her family. Despite its shortcomings, Ghost of Yotei remains an enjoyable experience for fans of stealth, combat, and exploration, set against the backdrop of Japan's Edo period.
Author's summary: Ghost of Yotei improves gameplay but lacks in storytelling depth.
