Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan lost in straight sets, while top seed Belinda Bencic continued her climb into the world top 10.

- Wang Yafan lost to Switzerland's Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-2.
"I felt good on the court," Bencic said. "I tried to play aggressively, tried to play my game, and it worked out well.
Bencic's victory marks her sixth win in a row, after winning the Japan Open. She was ranked '913 or something' a year ago, but is now climbing into the world top 10.
