Mayfield Urges "Fundamental Shift" in Approach to Workplace Health

The Government will set up a three-year vanguard project with employers and health providers to create a new "healthy work standard" and reduce employee absenteeism.

A "fundamental shift" in approach to workplace health and wellbeing is needed, moving from a model where health at work is "largely left to the individual and the NHS", to one where it becomes "a shared responsibility between employers, employees and health services."

This project follows recommendations made in the Keep Britain Working review, led by Sir Charlie Mayfield, which calls for employers, both large and small, to work with health service providers, including GPs, primary healthcare services, occupational health providers, and other third parties.

Author's summary: Mayfield calls for a new approach to workplace health.
