As of Wednesday morning, at least 12 people have died following the crash at Louisville’s airport.
The UPS cargo plane that crashed in Louisville late Tuesday afternoon was a regularly scheduled flight operated by the delivery and logistics company to Honolulu three times a week, based on public aviation data.
The cause of the approximately two-hour delay remains unknown. Videos from the scene captured the aircraft speeding down Louisville’s longest runway with its No. 1 left wing engine on fire. Seconds later, after climbing just 175 feet as recorded by Flightradar24, the Boeing jet veered toward an industrial park south of the airport.
The jet "impacted nearby buildings and exploded."
First responders quickly arrived to control the fire fueled by 38,000 gallons of jet fuel carried by the plane.
Summary: Flight data and witness videos reveal the UPS cargo plane's engine fire and crash moments after a significant delay, resulting in at least 12 fatalities.
