Peloton Recalls Nearly 900,000 Exercise Bikes Over Safety Concerns
Peloton has issued a recall for its Original Series Bike+ model, urging customers to stop using the bike immediately due to the risk of injury. This decision follows reports that the seat post can break during use, posing a potential fall hazard.
Details of the Recall
- Recall covers approximately 833,000 units sold in the United States.
- An additional 44,800 units sold in Canada may also be affected.
- The affected models are Peloton Original Series Bike+ manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022.
- The recall is for the PL02 model with serial numbers starting with "T".
Company Statement
“As part of Peloton’s commitment to product safety and our loyal Members, we are voluntarily recalling certain seat posts on Peloton Original Series Bike+ models manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022, in cooperation with the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission). The recall is due to the fact that the Original Series Bike+ seat post assembly can break during use, posing fall and injury hazards to the user.”
Peloton reported three incidents of seat post breakage in the United States but none in Canada. Customers are encouraged to contact Peloton to receive a free replacement seat post.
How to Identify Affected Bikes
The serial number can be found either inside or behind the front fork, or behind the flywheel.
Safety Recommendation
Users should immediately stop using the affected bikes until the seat post is replaced to prevent injury.
