Faithful Departure: A Belated First Visit to Knock Airport

On the way back from the Rolling Sun book festival in Westport, I had to drop a friend to Knock airport to catch the 9:40am flight to Alicante.

Despite being told that arriving an hour before the flight would be sufficient, we were running late after a night out, arriving at 8:47am.

The airport's location on a hilltop bog between Charlestown and nowhere left an impression, especially given the damp and overcast weather.

Msgr James Horan first unveiled plans for the project in the early 1980s, critics thought the site was not just too boggy, but too foggy as well.
