Field Day Boutique Expands into Richmond

A sex toy retailer from Charlottesville has expanded into Richmond, seeking to capitalize on the sale of Taboo to a national brand.

“I think Taboo selling to a national brand, there were people fired up about it,” said owner Maggie Flanary. “With the shift with Taboo happening, I was like I have to give the people what they want. There’s a hole to fill, if you will.”

Field Day Boutique opened this month in a 1,800-square-foot store at 11 E. in the Monroe Ward neighborhood downtown. The new shop is Field Day’s second physical location, adding to one it shares with Charlottesville bookstore The Beautiful Idea.

Owner Maggie Flanary was motivated to expand into Richmond after the acquisition of Taboo by national chain Romantix earlier this year.
