Foreign Ownership of Australian Water: 2024 Statistics
Canada remains the largest foreign holder of Australian water entitlements, with total foreign water interests increasing.
According to the Australian Taxation Office’s Register of Foreign Ownership of Australian Assets, the total volume of registered foreign-held water interests rose from 4,775 gigaliters to 4,932GL between June 30, 2023, and June 30, 2024.
This represents 12.3% of all Australian water entitlements, up from 11.8% a year earlier, mirroring the increase in foreign ownership of Australian farmland from 12.3% to 12.7%.
