Ian Fogarty, a Nassau County police officer, was recognized for rescuing two teens caught in a riptide at Cupsogue Beach County Park on July 16.
Fogarty was visiting the beach with his wife, Kristen, and three children when he saw two 16-year-olds struggling in the current about 100 yards offshore.
It just looked like it was something that could go wrong very quickly
With a boogie board, the off-duty officer swam out to the teens and helped them return to shore safely.
