A woman and a child tragically drowned after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne. The incident occurred at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong, around 3:45 pm on Monday.
Police believe the mother began struggling in the water while trying to save the child. Emergency services arrived promptly and found both the woman and child unconscious. CPR was performed at the scene, but sadly, neither could be revived.
Both victims were declared dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities are preparing a report for the coroner to investigate the circumstances further.
