Amtrak Shares Update on Construction of Connecticut River Bridge

Amtrak Update on Connecticut River Bridge Construction

Amtrak has shared an update on the construction of a modern bridge replacement between Old Saybrook and Old Lyme in Connecticut.

The work aims to improve reliability, boost top speeds, and enable smoother travel along the Northeast Corridor upon its opening in 2031.

The existing bridge currently opens for maritime traffic several times a day during the peak boating season and serves over 50 Amtrak Northeast Regional and Acela trains, CTrail Shore Line East commuter service trains, and freight trains daily.

The new bridge, being constructed immediately south of the existing bridge, will feature modern track, signal, power, and communication systems.

Funding for the project has been made possible with support from Amtrak funding partners, including the Federal Railroad Administration and Connecticut Department of Transportation, as well as O&G Industries/Tutor Perini and AECOM.
